What this page covers

JamEase ("we", "us") is a free tool that looks up a song's chords, detects its key, and shows you where to solo on the fretboard. This policy explains what data is collected and the choices you have about it. It covers both the website at this domain and the JamEase Android app, which loads that same website — they are one product and collect the same data.

Information we collect

• A device identifier we create. The first time you open JamEase we generate a random identifier and store it in your browser (or in the app's storage). It isn't derived from your device or from anything about you — it's a random number that lets us count returning visits and tie activity together before you have an account. If you later sign in, we link that identifier to your account, which means activity from before you signed in can be associated with you. Clearing your browser/app storage resets it to a new random value.
• Usage data we record ourselves. We keep our own record of how the app is used — sessions and how long they last, songs and scales opened, features used, prompts you were shown, and emails we sent you. These are stored against the identifier above, or against your account if you're signed in.
• Device and diagnostic data. Your operating system and browser (for example "Android / Chrome"), your time zone, and automatic error reports when something in the app breaks, so we can find and fix crashes. Error reports are collected whether or not you're signed in.
• Usage data via third parties. We also use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used — pages viewed, songs opened, favorites and feedback sent, and whether an ad led you here (including which campaign). This is collected via cookies and similar technologies and is tied to a device/browser identifier, not to your name or email.
• The Android app: Firebase and your Advertising ID. The JamEase app on Google Play includes Google Analytics for Firebase. It records that the app was installed and opened, and it reads your device's Advertising ID — a resettable identifier Google provides for advertising and measurement. Because the app is our website in an app wrapper, we also pass Firebase's per-install identifier to the page so that what you do in the app (opening a song, playing along, signing in) is reported as app activity rather than as anonymous web traffic. We use this to see whether people who install the app go on to use it, and to measure app install ads. You can reset the Advertising ID, or tell Android to stop apps using it, in Settings → Google → Ads on your device.
• Feedback you send. If you use the in-app feedback box, the text you type is sent to us so we can read it, along with the device identifier above so we can connect the report to what happened. Reports are stored in our private issue tracker, which isn't publicly visible. Don't include anything sensitive in the text.
• Song searches. The song name/artist you search for is sent to our server so it can look up chords; recent searches, favorites, and practice time may be kept to power those lists — stored locally in your browser, or in our account storage if you sign in (see below). Searches that return no results are also recorded on their own, so we know which songs to add.
• Account info, if you sign in (optional). Signing in with Google is never required to use JamEase's core features — only to save favorites and sync across devices. If you choose to sign in, we receive your Google account's name and email address and a stable account identifier from Google, and we store your favorites, streak, and practice data against that account instead of only your browser.

An account is entirely optional and only unlocks saving favorites and cross-device sync. We never collect payment information, and we don't ask for your location, contacts, photos, or microphone.

Cookies & advertising

We use these third-party analytics/advertising tools:

• Google Analytics (GA4) — usage analytics and, if we run Google Ads, conversion tracking.
• Google Analytics for Firebase — in the Android app only. Reports installs, opens and in-app activity, and uses your device's Advertising ID so app install ads can be measured.

These tools set cookies and may combine data about your visit with other data they have about you. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Blocking cookies in your browser also works, though some site features (like remembering favorites) may stop working.

Note that opting out of these doesn't affect the identifier we create ourselves, described above — it isn't a cookie and isn't shared with them. Clearing your browser or app storage is what resets that one.

How we use this information

• To operate and improve the app (which features get used, what breaks).
• To diagnose crashes and errors, and to tie a bug report to what actually happened.
• To measure whether ads we run are actually bringing people to JamEase.
• To respond to feedback you send us.
• If you sign in: to save your favorites and sync them across your devices, and to send you optional reminder emails — for example, a reminder before an active streak lapses, or a one-time nudge if you sign up but don't return the next day.

We do not sell your data.

Account emails & unsubscribing

If you sign in, we may send you occasional emails related to your account — currently, streak-loss reminders and a one-time welcome-back nudge for new sign-ups. We use Resend as our email delivery provider; your email address is shared with them solely to send these messages on our behalf. You can turn these off at any time under Practice reminders in the app's Settings screen, and every email also includes an unsubscribe link — clicking it opts you out immediately, with no account needed to do so.

Data retention & deletion

Third-party analytics data is retained per Google's standard retention windows for their respective products. Data collected by the Meta Pixel and the Reddit Pixel, which we used until September 2026, is likewise retained by Meta and Reddit on their own schedules. Our own usage records, error reports and feedback messages are kept as long as they're useful for running and fixing the app. Account data (name, email, favorites, streak, practice time) is kept for as long as your account exists. To delete your account and everything stored against it — including the usage records tied to your device identifier — email jamease@proton.me and we'll remove it. The deletion page sets out exactly what is removed, what we can't reach, and how to delete only part of your data.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
